Elective Title: 93CA910 — MEDICAL EDUCATION ELECTIVE IN PATHOLOGY

Description:

Students may serve as teaching assistants in a number of first and second year medical courses. This requires preparing for and attending the assigned teaching session. Students may be asked to help with administration of examinations held in the library computer lab. Additionally, students will be expected to complete online modules over different aspects of medical education and complete an independent project. Examples of projects include writing exam questions, creating a study resource, or updating a teaching session. The exact break-down for the above requirements will depend on the time of year that the student is enrolled in the elective.

Learning Objectives

  • 1) Identify areas of weakness in their basic pathology knowledge and review these areas by completing an independent project (MK3)
  • 2) Practice how to be educators through helping students during labs, review sessions, etc (ICS3)
  • 3) Recognize attributes of a strong educator (P2)

Assessment

  • Professional Development Evaluation Form; (The students are assessed both by observation and on their independent projects. The course director and elective coordinator both have input on the student’s final grade).
